West Virginia-Virginia 3rd Quarter 2017
STEVE MATHENEY RETIRES
Back on June 20, 1977, many of us were still children or not even thought of. On that day, Steve Matheney went to work for Lloyd Hannah in the Roanoke parts Department. For the next 40 years, Steve has been a huge part of the Roanoke parts group. He helped train Blain Wells and many others along the way to do the things the Homestead/Jefferds way. He started out using shelves and shelves of printed manuals and eventually moved through microfilm, microfiche and then into the computer age where things have changed so much over the past 20 years that it can make you dizzy just thinking about it. Steve has seen it all and adapted to each new technological onset. On Friday, August 25, Steve left us to move on to the next stage of his life and he plans on spending more time with his children and grandchildren. We certainly wish him the very best as he has earned it!
On Monday morning, August 14, Ed Soul (Clarksburg) was driving to take a service call in Elkins, WV before going to Monessen, Pa. Tragically, he hit a Lowe’s Lumber truck and the impact of the collision resulted in his death. He was a very experienced technician with many years in the industry. His customers both liked him and respected his knowledge. He will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him and had the pleasure of knowing him. He had been an Army Ranger and his funeral service was conducted with full military honors.
In the last issue, we forgot to mention the annual Pipestem golf outing that was held this year May5-7.West Virginia participants were: Jerry lee Adkins, Rod Brown, Zack Donovant (at the time, he was in WV!), Dave Gartner, Mark Johnson, Wyatt McLead and Richard Sinclair. Virginia’s Team had Gene Brogan, Michael Burnett, Paul Gladwell and his son (Jerry), John Harris, Ryan Hawkins, Jim Lundy, David Meredith, Philip Mostyn, Mike Milhoan, Kevin Plowman, David Sorrells and Calvin Woodzell. Having said that, we still had a good time and some of the golf was even good!
